Save My Ink Forever preserves tattoos into framed artworks

Save My Ink Forever, a postmortem tattoo service based in the US, preserves dead people’s tattoos by turning them into framed artworks after extraction to exhibit at the clients’ homes. Hanging the framed remains of a family’s loved one allows them not to feel separated from the person who passed away, but still feel their presence within their household through the hanged art collectibles. Save My Ink Forever, just like its name, has developed a proprietary process to preserve the tattoos by working with licensed morticians across the US to excise the tissues around the tattoos of a dead person and send them to the company whose lab is based in Ohio.

Father and son Michael and Kyle Sherwood are the masterminds behind the company, and their mission is to help carry on a loved one’s story by framing their preserved tattoos. The duo hopes to ensure that the spirit and legacy of anyone’s loved ones can live on for generations to come and focuses on creating an everlasting memorial. They do not just recreate the tattoos as photographs, but clients receive the actual tattoos of their loved ones as a framed piece of art that is presented to the family in a dignified manner as the duo puts it. Since not all funeral homes accept the mission to remove the tattoos off a dead person’s body, the duo has a list of preferred providers but insists that they can work with any morgue companies so long as they accept the removal process.

Only professionally done tattoos can be extracted

The company reinstates that only professionally done tattoos can be extracted and that they cannot guarantee extraction of tattoos done outside of a tattoo parlor or with non-professional tattoo ink. When a loved one passes away, the family can visit the company’s website to find a preferred provider in their area, but if a funeral home is not listed, the family can request their chosen crematory to provide the company’s services. At this point, the funeral home and Save My Ink Forever can collaborate to carry out the excision. The company says that the funeral home has 48 to 72 hours to contact them, but this does not mean the tattoo has to be removed within this time frame.

They just need to be notified, so they can then send a recovery kit that contains all of the essential paperwork and materials for the recovery process of the loved one’s tattoo(s). After the recovery process is completed, the family can expect to receive their loved one’s framed tattoo art within three months, and the company’s framing artist will pair a frame to best suit the style of the tattoo accompanied with museum-quality UV glass to exercise the exhibition-design style. The company also says that the pricing of the service is based on the size of the tattoo.

Needing an open mind to extract tattoos

Customers who have acquired the service have expressed their content about what Save My Ink Forever did to preserve their loved one’s memories. One client named Dawn commented that she would pay the money over and over again to state how worth it the service was and that she was extremely pleased when she received it. She and her husband had thought through the process before his passing and how he would have loved how his art turned out after preservation and framing. She shared that his local funeral home had different thoughts about the extraction and tried to alk her out of it, but she insisted on going through it, acknowledging that his husband was a well-known artist in their community and that tattoos symbolized his passion. She says that because of the service, he will be forever cherished by his family.

Another user, named Connie, commented that her family has always known about her wishes to plan her funeral from her music choices to passages to be read, and that now they know about her tattoo preservation. She said that Save My Ink Forever supplies the proper forms to insure one’s art is left to the designated recipient. Her funeral director has all of the proper paperwork and the correct contact information prior to her death and reminds readers that to go through the process, the chosen funeral home included, everyone needs to have an open mind.
