unFLOP has selected the anglo-japanese artist simon fujiwara as the designer to create the cover art, package, vinyl art and interview on vinyl for the third edition of the magazine. the editorial team for the bi-annual english publication is comprised of art directors, visual designers, photographers, copy writers and art curators and investigates investigates contemporary culture focusing on upcoming talent in the art world.
characteristics typical to the current portfolio of fujiwara are observed in his nostalgic treatment of this celebrated recording form and magazine. the third unFLOP cover art is a square multi-layered package picturing an acoustic guitar which has been cut away to reveal the inner cover. the second layer displays the image of a young model seen through the holes cut for the sound chamber of this familiar string instrument. unFLOP created a vinyl for this edition containing the story of simon fujiwara’s ‘welcome to the hotel munber’ piece, narrated by the artist himself.
