every time we publish one of teamlab’s immersive art installations, we can’t help but wish we were there. and although here at designboom many of us have had the pleasure to experience them personally, we are very excited to share with you that in the summer of 2018, tokyo will host a full-scale digital art museum called ‘MORI building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab borderless.’ the space will showcase the japanese collective’s first permanent exhibition and flagship facility.

the MORI building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab borderless will open this summer in tokyo

located in the palette town complex of odaiba in tokyo, the all-new museum concept is a collaborative initiative between mori building—a noted supporter of culture and art—, and teamLab, an interdisciplinary creative group that utilizes digital technologies to express art. encompassing a total of 10,000 square meters of labyrinthine floor space, the ‘borderless’ expresses the museum’s aim to tear down the borders between ‘one art and another’, ‘art and visitors’, and ‘oneself and others’, by allowing visitors to melt into the art and become part of it.

and although what is going to be shown is still a mystery, we can expect interactive, digital art full of color and poetry like everything teamlab has created before.
