julien berthier excavates the centre of fitjar island
‘the centre of fitjar’ by julien berthier

french artist julien berthier was invited to exhibit on the island of fitjar in norway – he did this by excavating the centre of the island and transporting it
via a helicopter to another islet, where it remains as a permanent installation. berthier executed this project following a staunch methodology,
using the technique of balance point he found the centre of the commune of fitjar, after marking this area he hollowed out the mass of earth and air-lifted
it to another site. the project aimed to recognize the symbolic core of the village, in the most literal way possible.
