german artist martin kippenberger once proposed a subway system for the entire world, with stations in los Angeles to helsinki, tokyo to rome. greek islands, canadian towns, swiss lakes, – there would be entrances everywhere. he actually began building the station entrances – doors in the earth, leading nowhere – including the portable subway entrance. shown above, an entrance was built on the roof of the world trade center. unfortunately th project came to an end when kippenberger died of cancer at age 43 in 1997. bldg blog wants to know if anybody and who will re-start the project. read more
