to celebrate the lgbtqia+ pride month, facebook app invited estudio guto requena to color sao paulo by creating a hybrid installation through a fusion of analog and digital techniques. installed at one of the city’s most iconic streets, minhocão, the façade receives a forty-meter panel painted with colors of the lgbtqia+ flag and a mapping projection during the night. keeping the pride spirit alive, the project was made collectively with the participants expressing their strength and resistance.#togetherwithpride: estudio guto requena gives color with 40-meter installation in brazilall images courtesy of estudio guto requena

estudio guto requena was invited to create the installation in association with mutato productions and studio curva. facebook app promoted a live event and invited members to share their stories and join with the hashtag #juntoscomorgulho, which means ‘together with pride’. through a software connected to facebook’s app, the number of comments sent by the public was counted and displayed in real-time by the ‘pridemeter’, a special kind of ‘thermometer’. when the number of comments reached 100%, the system discharged the first two flag’s colors, painting the façade in a cascade effect.#togetherwithpride: estudio guto requena gives color with 40-meter installation in brazil

the street, which opens to pedestrians every evening and weekends transforming itself into an urban park, now receives a panel in a façade of one of the neighboring buildings. facebook’s event featured a program of great names in brazilian music like pabllo vittar, gloria groove and majur. during the show break, the other four colors were discharged in pairs painting the lgbtqia+ flag collectively. furthermore, the urban art is exhibited during june, and it receives a projection mapping over the painting every evening. the mapping occurs in two moments showing a visual art using a particle effect that behaves individually yet in a dynamic way, shaping the flag while illuminating and animating the art piece.#togetherwithpride: estudio guto requena gives color with 40-meter installation in brazil

moreover, a graphic art design displays the messages from facebook community expressing their pride, courage, and resistance. the design as activism is an essential tool in resisting the retrogression and threat to freedoms and rights in the current brazilian scene, led by an extreme right-wing government. brazil is currently one of the countries that kills the most lgbtqia+ members in the world.#togetherwithpride: estudio guto requena gives color with 40-meter installation in brazil

the work #juntoscomorgulho creates a symbolic landmark in the city and makes the voices of this community present on a forty-meter façade in a highly visible point. the street which is currently in the process of becoming an urban park, brings together around thirty murals by different artists, in addition to several spontaneous projections, a number that increased significantly in the last year, transforming the elevated viaduct into an open-air art gallery.#togetherwithpride: estudio guto requena gives color with 40-meter installation in brazil
