french artist valerie collart creates sculptures and installations which she uses to explore structure and chaos. now living and working in copenhagen denmark, collart depicts a variety of forms that represents man-made and natural things. these opposing ideas provide her work with duality that create tension. one of her key interests is exploring the idea of surfaces giving a false impression to an objects contents, contradicting our impression of its volume. this is most apparent in her large sculpture ‘rock’, which appears to be a solid mass from one angle and a hollow shell from another.
