massive floating ‘metacloud’ traverses the streets of tokyo

continuing his investigation of urban space, digital imagination, and phenomena of perception, french artist vincent leroy unveils ‘tokyo metacloud’, a giant floating cloud traversing the streets of the japanese metropolis. made up of thin curved blades, the installation plays on the balance between material, air, and transparency to create an impression of extreme lightness. once again, leroy’s poetic and contemplative universe detaches viewers from the real world and invites them to indulge in an immersive, dreamlike experience.

generating a visual and emotional experience

in this period when cities dozed off in confinement, vincent leroy (find more here) re-enchants the urban space with a new experience in the form of a public artwork combining visual poetry and digital imagination. the metacloud takes the form of a giant levitating cloud floating in the streets of tokyo. despite its monumental size, metacloud seems barely tangible, almost unreal. slow and continuous, the movement of the piece brings a permanent change of point of view and generates fluid and dreamlike transformations. the thin curved blades that compose the installation overlap and create captivating and infinite moiré effects that plunge the passer-by into a waking dream. the experience is visual but also emotional.
