vincent leroy's hovering kinetic lens installation echoes the ripples of canada's emerald lake

echo lens takes flight above emerald lake

Vincent Leroy tests his latest creation, Echo Lens, on the banks of Emerald Lake in Canada. Made of concentric and optical rings, the kinetic installation transforms the landscape into a dreamlike and poetic vision, as it floats slowly and soundlessly. Evolving delicately without disrupting the tranquil ambiance of the expanses of nature that engulf it, the installation captures fragments of the mountains, water, and sky in subtle motions and refracts them back into the landscape. Seeking inspiration from the scenic canvasses of the natural world, the French artist continues his experimental exploration, setting his mobile creations against the backdrop of vast spaces across the world, from the Icelandic glaciers to the Californian desert.

vincent leroy employs natural landscapes as canvasses

Sited along the shores of the Emerald Lake in the Canadian Rockies, Vincent Leroy’s Echo Lens begins a silent dialogue with the sumptuous landscape that surrounds it without disturbing the peacefulness of the site. The optic ripples echo the almost imperceptible, hypnotic motions of the water, while the transparency of the rings dialogues with the mirrored surface of the lake. In the prism of the mobile, the horizon is diffracted, and the perspective is amplified until transforming the landscape into an abstract and changing camaieu. Through their undulations, the optical rings reveal glimpse of the lake in their interstices, blurring the boundaries between illusion and reality.
