randy polumbo: love stream steven kasher gallery, new york september 13th to september 30th, 2012

new york artist randy polumbo orchestrates blooming organic handblown glass objects into an interactive artwork entitled ‘love stream’, showing at the steven kasher gallery in new york. the sculpture manufactures a wonderland of phallic connotations — with a bouquet of ‘udderformations’ and ‘wall flowers’ of swollen crystal infused with LED lights. the piece aims to re-imagine a vintage airstream trailer as a space for human, cyborg-like pollination, immersing the viewer into a bioluminescent environment of pleasure and sensuality.

‘love stream’ is an extension of polumbo’s earlier work  ‘the garden and grotto of manifest destiny’ (2008) – a solar powered, portable, military station sprouting with a flowering of illuminated sex toys. the work presents the audience with a universe of the exotic – an insight into the artist’s fascination with nature, constellations, procreation and the world of the galactic.
