the new arrangement will present a wider selection of aisslinger’s work than before, encompassing a varied selection of products and creations from the designer’s oeuvre. spanning an assortment of themes including farming, the future, nature, storytelling and the human condition, the multi-layered exhibit continues to question the relationship between art and design, between present and future, between the gallery and that which it contains.

concerned with the future, aisslinger tackles theme of ecology and sustainable living through product design

concerned with the ever changing needs of the modern world in response to new  materials and technology, the work of werner aisslinger displayed at pinakothek der moderne responds directly to the fluctuating reality of human life. engaging not just with the present, but with the not-too-distant future, the house of wonder exhibition features products and textiles with their roots firmly in the automotive industry, medicine and the bio-sciences. the result is a bricolage of innovative and unconventional solutions to product design and interior architecture. a practical approach to ecology, sustainability and domesticity defines the collection. for die neue sammlung, aisslinger will convert the paternoster hall into a model studio for residential living and working. just as society adapts to facilitate the needs and wants of the people, aisslinger’s ‘house of wonder’ contains space for recreation, relaxation, industry, farming and life as we know it.

‘house of wonder’ will run at the pinakothek der moderne for 10 months — from now until september 17, 2017 — and will be accompanied by a catalogue published by verlag der buchhandlung walther könig.
