at oudekerksplein 4, atelier ted noten is participating in red light design – a cooperation between droog design, the city of amsterdam and jewellery designers in order to transform the former prostitutes’ cribs into jewellery workshops. atelier ted noten has installed a snack machine with red rings in which you can ‘be nice to a girl and buy her a ring!’

atelier ted noten uses the house as an art-in-residence place. the vending machine with the red rings is installed in the entry door.

  • great fun

    Will says:
  • It strays from the beaten path. Is it a temporary installation?

    Doug R. says:
  • happy-to see something that makes people happy! 🙂

    shawn says:
  • I’ve been there and bought a ring. This installation is not without controversy though- the local opinion is that it’s tacky and is replacing something more interesting with something banal. Also, it seems that droog (and the fashion designers also taking over the booths) may simply be a proxy for real estate developers to help kick out the existing tenants to move in higher-rent retail into the area.

Also I got yelled at by the working girls when buying the ring.

    jim t says:
  • Jim: what was this machine replacing that was more interesting? Have you heard of what droog will be doing with the newly acquired space?

    Anna-Karin says:
  • Are we waiting for the ‘be nice to boys……..’ equivalent? Come to think of it, what would boys like?……..
