move over ladies designer wear there’s a new kid in town. with the current crisis international fashion houses are feeling the pinch, however the clothing market is not fully doomed for 2009. designer childrenswear is outperforming womenswear in the economic downturn. one of the reasons behind this phenomenon is that there a lot fewer kids, than adult brands, hence there is room for growth.  rising birthrates along with an increase in career moms has also added to the baby fashion boom. barneys new york’s top selling designer labels include little ella moss, phillip lim kids, john galliano and little marc jacobs.  other labels to follow suit include john paul gautier and lacoste who will release their kids collections in the coming months.

  • this is a bit ridiculous. it’s come to the point where people have TOO much money to spend and on top of spending thousands of dollars on a scarf, they’re gonna spend thousands on an outfit which will be outgrown in a short period of time. the designs are nice and all but this is great insight to how “society” has become “snobiety”.

  • Los niños tienen que ser siempre niños!, los niños son infantiles, alegres y, sobre todo no son pretenciosos. Marc Jacobs se equivoca!

  • Can’t wait to see how these clothes hold up to puke, crayons, grass stains, and ketchup. Sounds like a good time to invest in dry cleaners.

Then again, people who dress their kids in these clothes will probably never let them be kids.

  • ridic! like mean little grown-ups.

  • They actually hold up to puke, crayons, and ketchup very well. I find it’s well worth the money and I’m not a mean grown up. The higher end quality is not only more durable but washes like brand new each time. LMJ also always comes with an adjustable waist and the fabric is usually stretchy so the child is not only comfortable, but can wear it for 2-3 sizes.
