designer's own words:

The inspiration for this piece of furniture comes from the Korean word "Maru" which roughly translates as a wooden lounge area on the side of a traditional Korean house that connects to the garden. This space is used for socialising, eating, drinking, napping and so on. It seemed that this concept could be adapted for contemporary living and inspire a range of furniture solutions, one being a multifunctional bed that would work well in a teenager’s bedroom. The Maru roller bed simply slides open in one easy movement to reveal the duvet and mattress. When the roller bed is closed it provides the perfect place for teenagers to study, relax and socialise. The fold away design is intended to reduce the clutter in the typical teenager’s bedroom. Cool duvet covers and pillow designs could also be developed so that teenagers can personalise their bed, in much the same way they would buy a cover for their iPod. The Maru roller bed is a contemporary space saving concept that gets teenagers excited about the possibilities of furniture.
