as always, designboom provides an unprecedented opportunity to meet the young avant-garde and become familiar with their work. 35 designers from all over the world will share know-how and discuss with with other like-minded professionals and people from different cultural backgrounds: customers, manufacturers, distributors, press and museum curators – verifying their designs and their packaging credentials.

‘design that matters’ is the theme of the first copenhagen design week (august 27 until september 6) in view of the UN climate conference, which is scheduled to take place in copenhagen in december, the design week will focus wholly on sustainability.

‘every item in the program traces the positive power of design to inspire companies and individuals to create new opportunities for a changing world’, says christian scherfig, director of the danish design center, which is organizing the copenhagen design week.

other events – exhibition of the finalists of the INDEX Awards (august 21 – september 13). ‘design to improve life’ is organized by the danish state and offers prize money totaling €500,000. – exhibition COPENHAGEN SHOWHOW (august 27 – september 6) shows sustainable design by talented young people – CO2PENHAGEN (september 5/6) is a CO2-neutral music festival. – exhibition ‘it’s a small world’ (august 28 – february 1, 2010) in the danish design center will explore the return to handicrafts in design and architecture – classic danish design will be exhibited in the kunstindustrimuseet.
