‘manufacturing’ was an exhibition curated by the science fiction writer, futurist and design critic bruce sterling, which explored the rise of digital manufacturing in design. the exhibition was held in torino’s historic castello valentino during the piemonte share festival in torino, italy.

in the exhibit’s introduction, sterling points out the continual evolution of of digital technology and its escalating role in the design process. from the earliest forms of word processing to advanced 3-d rending software, digital technology has rapidly affected the world of design and will continue on this course. the next step in this evolution is digital manufacturing. this exhibition demonstrates the most contemporary examples of this important new technology. from prototypes to final products, digital manufacturing is rapidly growing and will soon be mainstream. this show looks at a selection of projects, companies and schools on the cutting edge of this technology.
