influenced by the functional and beautiful design of traditional japanese straw rain-capes — typically crafted with bundles of woven strands to provide warmth from a harsh climate — french designer emmanuelle moureaux has layered her ‘mino’ garment for men and women. long, delicate strands of paper — spanning a spectrum of 100 different colors laid out in unique order — materializes two different forms of the wearable caplet.

with motion, hues set in the back are revealed as the surface sheets float into the air, revealing all colors instantaneously. the women’s ‘mino’ adopts 3,450 strands of paper sliced into 5mm wide strips to express softness and daintiness through graceful movement; the men’s edition employs 1,140 strands of 20mm wide lengths, amassed to express a sense of boldness despite the delicate quality of the material. an accompanying shoulder bag uses 5mm wide strands that flutter gently in the wind, faintly showing the gradient of hues.
