although first initiating in the 2018 edition, design fresh returns as a highlight to the 2019 100% design. the exhibition celebrates emerging talent as selected from major UK design degree shows and by barbara chandler, design editor of homes & property at the london evening standard. thirty designers were chosen for their explorative ideas and original products. each one either challenges pressing issues facing the global today, from eco-aware concepts to innovative manufacturing processes, or as unique expressions of beauty.

underground volume II fabrics by kirky design

translating british heritage into the modern day, an original 1967 victoria line tube carriage will act as an immersive venue as part of the west kensignton design district. created by textile studio kirky design, the train’s interior will be upholstered in the underground volume II fabrics, which is a new collection of velvets and readymade cushions that recreate iconic moquette designs used for seating fabric across the underground. seven distinct designs with sophisticated geometries and trendy colors have been derived from the 1930s onward on network lines such as the metropolitan, bakerloo and piccadilly.
