the A’ design award and competition, the world’s largest international design awards, has grown even bigger with 1,962 winners announced from 100 countries and in 99 different design disciplines. each year, the platform aims to increase awareness for good design by highlighting and promoting only the very best projects. these winning designs are carefully selected from thousands of project submissions, ranging from conceptual to realized, by a globally influential jury panel of esteemed scholars, press members, creative professionals and entrepreneurs.

 

as a symbol for excellence in design and innovation, the winners of the A’ design award and competition receive a highly coveted and comprehensive winners’ kit, which includes a trophy, certificate and book, as well as both PR and marketing services. the laureates are recognized under five different distinctions – platinum, gold, silver, bronze and iron – while being categorized in a variety of groupings, including spatial design (architecture, and interior, urban and landscape design), industrial design (product, appliance, vehicle and machinery design), communication design (graphics, interaction and marketing design), fashion design (garment, fashion accessory and footwear design), system design (service design, design strategy, quality & innovation), as well as for achievements in arts and literature.

winter, fall and spring are shown by washes of blue, yellow and pink light within the ‘setsugekka japanese cuisine’ by tianwen sun. pairing with this, ultra clear glass offsets the black background of the sushi counter to establish an atmosphere of zen. the interior, from its form and style to its spirit, reflects an overall theme of japanese art.

 

 

based on traditional mosques, the ‘da chang muslim cultural center‘ by hejingtang studio subtly interprets the conventional structure of the building type with new materials and technologies. the resulting design combines elegantly petal-shaped arches with a dome that translates an abstraction of islamic symbols. with both natural and artificial lighting, the seemingly delicate forms reflect upon the surrounding water landscape to create an even more spiritual setting.

the ‘iconic cloud’ by pia weinberg is a series of rockers that are functional for kids yet stylish for an adult interior. building upon a structure of solid french oak, the designs are then complete with soft, upholstery of 100% wool, which are shaped as either a cloud, moon or watermelon for children to play upon.

inspired by the cascading namesake mountains in china, the ‘guilin’ by kevin chu is composed of a base with three equal length slots where the photocatalytic coated acrylic lights can be placed at random. although with a touch sensitive on/off switch, as well as an internal charging battery, the lamp’s treatment works with any light and wind to illuminate during the night. the movable mountains, much like its inspiration, aims to highlight their significance to the environment.

said to the the ‘thinnest and lightest electric scooter’, the ‘eagle‘ by ignas survila features a minimalist, curvilinear frame. with a collapsible frame, users can either carry it on their shoulders or drag it when not in use. the design can be controlled via a smartphone bluetooth in the handle-built-in dashboard.

enhancing the principles of parametric design, the ‘life extension‘ residential house by YU, PIN-CHI is bold yet highly functional. this is through its interior forms that not only connect areas of the home to one another but by actually forming features, such as desks, seats and more. bathed in white, the result is future thinking, much like the designer.

on a sloping, south-facing plot, the ‘CoMED‘ by ad2 architekten AndreaDämon-AndreasDoser emerges from the ground adorning reflective aluminum panels. across many layers, the four story building merges with the natural decline of the ground to finally meet a projecting pool area. the modern residence house, on one side, features a sculpted but smooth shape while, on the other side, an exposed exterior with balconies and a glass basement.

sourcing influence from the clean, minimalist shapes of contemporary sculptures, the ‘exo’ chair by svilen gamolov aims to smoothly and simply fit any interior space. its design reduces the visual noise, whilst providing exceptional durability and comfort. available in a wide range of color combinations, it is constructed through a steel structure and quality upholstery.

bringing the afsluitdijk dike – built in 1932 – back to its former glory, ‘gates of light’ by daan roosegaarde places small prisms on the architecture so that, in the dark, headlamps of passing cars shine and light up the structures. creating patterns of retroreflection, the lighting project uses zero energy itself and does not contribute to light pollution.

aiming to stir the senses, the ‘avanti’ car by ross compton sources styles from past formula one designs. said to be ‘not practical and not the most technologically advanced’, the conceptual vehicle is honest and beautiful. it aims to make the user feel special and delight with its aluminum form and high performance.
