address marker nesting boxes invite local birds to coexist with city dwellers

digit-shaped nesting box doubles as street address marker

Mikołaj Nicer and Paweł Frej present Numbird, a digit-shaped nesting box that doubles as a street address marker, promoting urban bird habitats. A refined iteration of their award-winning project, Our Common House, Numbird aims to enhance quality of life and foster sustainable development. The project combines aesthetic appeal with practical functionality to address the loss of natural habitats caused by urbanization.

Numbird is designed for easy assembly by families, promoting emotional engagement, especially among children. The kit includes waterproof plywood components treated with natural oil and all necessary parts for quick self-assembly, delivered in a courier-friendly box. By integrating Numbird into urban landscapes, the designers hope to create a harmonious living environment for humans and birds.

numbird envisions the coexistence of  birds and people

With the rapid development of urban areas, many natural habitats have been destroyed, significantly impacting small bird populations. Modern building technologies have drastically reduced safe spaces for these birds. Mikołaj Nicer (founder of Nicer Design) and Paweł Frej (general creative director of Hibrands) address this issue by offering a practical and symbolic solution to support bird habitats. The project encourages community involvement, with families assembling and installing the birdhouses together, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and empathy towards wildlife. By promoting Numbird, the creators envision cities where people and birds can coexist peacefully, enhancing the urban environment for all inhabitants. The project builds on the designers’ previous successes, including accolades such as the Red Dot Design Award, the IF Award Gold, and Pentawards.
