‘it’s time to enter a world of limitless possibilities’

adidas has stepped into the metaverse by teaming up with three key NFT players: bored ape yacht club, pixel vault’s PUNKS comic, and crypto investor gmoney. the new collaboration was announced earlier in december via adidas originals’ twitter page with a short video clip showing avatars of the three collaborators skydiving to a huge adidas logo. a glimpse of the collaboration imagery has also been revealed on instagram following the announcement.

details of what will come from the partnerships haven’t yet been disclosed but adidas has said its goal of entering the metaverse is ‘to see every one of its inhabitants thrive. the metaverse is where anyone can express their most original ideas and be their most authentic selves, in whatever form they might take. and thanks to the blockchain (and NFTs), those pioneers can own a piece of what they create.’

of course, adidas isn’t the only major brand to stake its territory in virtual worlds and digital assets. just this week, NIKE acquired virtual sneaker designer RTFKT and in 2019, the american corporation filed a patent for blockchain-enabled digital shoes. as the metaverse continues to expand, stay tuned for these sportswear giants’ next moves.
