akarchitectes: the waste folder

‘the waste-folder’ in use at a picnic

‘the waste-folder’ is a compact, hand-held bin, which easily unfolds into a six-compartment device for garbage and recycling. designed by akarchitectes ‘the waste-folder’ adapts to any spontaneous event: picnics, barbecues or unexpected meetings. the design is literally a flat folder thin package made from paper and cardboard which can also be recycled after use.

sequence of use

the folder consists of six compartments

the design is easy to carry and literally is the size of a file folder

it easily fits into one’s bag

sequence of use: remove the paper band

strip away the paper tab unfold the folder

fan it open into a circle to reveal the six compartments

tear off the perforated top seam of the folder to detach the compartments for throwing away garbage and recycling

take out each section according to your needs

designboom has received these images from our new ‘DIY submissions‘ feature, where we welcome our readers to submit their own work for publication. we have already acquired many submissions, so keep on the lookout for more of your projects to be published in the coming days!

  • That’s great and all, but couldn’t you just use the containers you brought the waste in to take it home and recycle, compost, trash, etc. ?? This seems a little counter productive. It sure does look good in pictures though and adds yet another bit of excess into our already cluttered world. Oh and it’s not reusable?! Very well thought out.

Sometimes the greatest design is no design at all!

  • excelent concept.. love the product!

    Aye says:
  • I love it!! Hopefully one day it will be commonplace.
The only thing is that the paper might rip when seperating the bags. I would sugget perhaps cardboard tabs attached to the bag which slide out of the carboard frame.
