orgatec 2016: antwerp-based buzzispace has presented ‘buzzifloat’, a chair by belgian designer alain gilles. with its intentionally simple design, this minimal chair aims to maximize space. because of the small amount of material used, the development process was not straightforward and required a lot of fine-tuning in order to achieve structural strength and comfort.

‘the concept of the buzzifloat came to me whilst on holiday, passing by a train barrier at a railway crossing,’ comments alain gilles. ‘it had this U-shape allowing the movement of the gate that made me think of two identical pieces that would become the backrest and the side support on which the seat pan also happens to rest. the gap created between the seat and the supporting structure creates a floating effect, hence the name of the chair.’

the ‘buzzifloat’ chair is available in various finishes allowing it to fit multiple spaces: non-upholstered or upholstered with an elegant cushioned seat and backrest. in order to meet all functional needs, it is also available in three base options: wooden base or metal cross with or without wheels. its bent plywood back support aligns perfectly with tabletops, making it also ideal for office settings, residential homes and hospitality areas.
