alberto meda: hydrochair for alias‘hydrochair’ by alberto meda and francesco meda for alias

the collaboration between italian designers alberto meda and francesco meda (a father and son team) has led to ‘hydrochair’ for italian furniture manufacturer alias. the back and seat of the piece was the result of experimentation with hydro-formed aluminum, a material usually used for building extreme competition bikes because of its lightness and durability. the production process allows for continuous variations in the cross-sections, reducing the amount of material needed overall. the technological hybrid also takes advantage of pressure-case aluminum for the frame, maximizing its strength.

the stackable chair was exhibited at salone del mobile during milan design week 2012.
