the ‘LED 1.0’ lamp by italian studio alburno is a representation of the original light emitting diode prototype developed in 1962. the source of illumination has been deliberately exaggerated as a large object, representing the importance of the energy efficient discovery and development of this idea. the product and its packaging are based on aesthetics typical to the 1960’s, while the colors use softer tones such as bottle green, tobacco and cobalt blue. the piece is handcrafted in italy and made from blown glass by master glassmakers in treviso, prealpi beech and walnut wood and sienite stone from balma, found in a small quarry in biella.
