exhibited at 2019’s stockholm design week, ‘avknoppningar’ is a joint project by the designers anki gneib and mia cullin, nola and the floral scenography designer claes carlsson. the collaboration marks a further development of gneib and cullin’s acclaimed planters ‘cacti’ and ‘gro’, now developed into a family of trellises, bird tables, vases and sculptural designs. growth is a recurring theme in the exhibition, where strict graphic design meets organic unrestraint in unexpected expressions.

anki gneib‘s ‘cacti’ collection comprises of three designs. the ‘cacti planters’ are inspired by the artist frida kahlo’s cactus wall that grows at her home in mexico. by implementing the shape of the cactus into the planter and trellis, the decorative structured elements can easily define and divide space. the ‘cacti cocoon’ uses their signature curves to create a group of wire hanging baskets, that can be hooked together horizontally or vertically to form a sequence of interlocking designs. finally the ‘cacti bird’ is a decorative birdfeeder supported by a streamlined post, or available as a pendant version that can hang from a tree branch.

the ‘avknoppningar’ exhibition also includes mia cullin‘s ‘gro’ series. the ‘gro planter’ aims to celebrate the beauty of nature, making it possible to bring climbing plants, vines and creepers into man-made environments. the planter is fitted with frameworks designed in a geometrical triangle. when several planters are placed in a row, their decorative geometrical designs can create an attractive screen or provide a stylish means of dividing space. anki gneib and mia cullin combine greenery with sculptural forms in 'avknoppningar' series

the ‘gro planter’ has also been further developed to create the ‘gro vase’. the original design has been complemented by a round planter in two sizes. the new planter combines a radial framework designed to accommodate all types of flower arrangements. the integral framework provides support for stems, stalks, robust greenery and small branches. the ‘gro’ collection also includes two new climbing frames, each crafted with a unique motif that adds decorative elements. named ‘leaf’ and ‘net’ respectively, each motif offers a distinctive style that gives each planter an individual expression.
