czech visual artist jiri prihoda has constructed the second in his series of thought cells entitled, ‘ark’: a reinterpretation of a medieval monk cell intended as a space for visual and mental seclusion and individual thought. situated in the courtyard of the famous bethlehem chapel, in prague’s historic center, ‘ark’ becomes a place to dwell between the elements of sky and water. the metallic volume is situated atop a small pool of water and a rectangular glass panel fitted into the wooden floor reveals the pond beneath. at the ceiling is a window that encompasses half the structure’s total size, bringing luminous sun-light to the interior of the chamber. the cavernous core is a fluid, sweeping form painted with white walls, while a plywood table anchored onto the side panels contains shelf-like openings for simple storage. ‘ark’ thought cell will be displayed to the general public at galerie jaroslava fragnera, prague until november 17th, 2013.

prihoda recently exhibited a glow-in-the-dark urban dwelling for designblok 2013 in prague. you can see designboom’s coverage of the sculptural habitat here.
