the formal elements of the ‘claudio chair’ are derived from the rhythmic architectural framework of an arcade and the repetition of arches.  designed by indoors, a subdivision of spanish firm arquitectura-G, the seating design decontextualizes the traditional heavy solid construction of an arch,  translating it into a small scale object constructed from thin planes of wood. the legs make up an L-shaped cross-section,  which transforms into arches within each plane, making the joints under the seat stiff, offering stability.

an added detail of the claudio chair by arquitectura-G is that the legs are rounded so that each one leans in on a single point. the design’s seat back features an arch, so that when lining up multiple chairs on a horizontal plane, they reinforce the categorically geometric character of the piece. the trapezoidal seat of ‘claudio’ offers one the illusion of a vanishing point,  in the way of a forced perspective as seen renaissance art and the paintings of pre-surrealist artist giorgio de chirico.
