arturo erbsman reproduces colors by manipulating light through multi-hued panes of glass in his ‘solar lamp’ series presented at cité de la mode et du design during maison et objet in paris. his work portrays a careful observation of natural phenomena in everyday life.

the ‘helios’ lamp creates the illusion of a sunset by projecting a gradient of soft and warm colors on the wall.  this effect is achieved by combining a white light source with a dichroic filter, that by transmitting only certain wavelengths of light, reflects the rest of the spectrum instead of absorbing it. this generates a chromatic landscape that evokes the nightfall.

the ‘zenith’ lamp also aims to bring the sun into the user’s home by projecting its luminous rays, this time on the ceiling. it consists of an incandescent bulb that is surrounded by an LED ribbon. the contrast of the two opposing light sources, warm yellow and cold white, achieves an optical illusion of a light blue sky. a lens is then placed over the incandescent bulb generating the sun’s rays.

‘zenith’ diffuses a comfortable light that echoes the visual perception and sensation of looking at sun. the lamp aspires to pay a tribute to the brightest star in the sky by bringing it into the user’s house. the pale blue tones that illuminate the room set up a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

allowing the user to create his/her own composition of colors, the ‘chroma’ lamp is a light fixture that consists of several hued screens that are placed in front of a light source. by moving and juxtaposing several different filters it creates a stain glass effect. as a result of is modularity, ‘chroma’ can brighten any space with a multitude of color combinations.
