'mother nature fan club' by tobia zambotti encourages people to sit and contemplate nature

in a world where we are more aware than ever before of the damage being caused to our planet, atelier tobia zambotti has designed the ‘mother nature fan club’ (MNFC) for a site in iceland. by using seating typically reserved for sporting events, the ‘ready-made’ art installation turns the spectator’s view out onto nature, in an effort to provoke contemplation on environmental issues of today.

envisioned to look out over skeljanes bay near reykjavik, the installation by tobia zambotti adopts a playful character by utilizing brightly colored vintage plastic stadium seats. rather than enjoying a live sporting match or musical performance, viewers are instead faced with the impressive view of the bay. in this situation, the art piece intends to provoke visitors to meditate on nature itself and the future of our planet, without any other distractions. 

the red and blue tiers fit into a curved bay that resembles a real stadium, creating the perfect environment for mother nature’s fan who metaphorically supports what they care most about

appearing at first as an intervention that isn’t specific to the site, on closer inspection, one can see that the red and blue tiers of chairs in fact fit into the curved shape of the bay, resembling a real stadium. dedicated to ‘the people who think that sunsets and rainbows are more exciting than any kind of sporting events,’ the design in essence provides a place to appreciate our natural surroundings and become mother nature’s number one fan.
