‘in vein’ is the first solo exhibition of israeli lighting and furniture designer ayala serfaty in the united states. held at the cristina grajales gallery, in new york, the show is a presentation of 16 new objects in which serfaty continues her exploration of ancient materials merged with contemporary design. in this latest collection of work, the designer has researched the process of hand-made felt and its application to contemporary furniture.  viewing each of her pieces as a canvas, she offers seating options whereby silk, linen and wools are molded to create seamless upholstered surfaces. the combination of the layered fibers create a dense and intricate, textured skin provoking the viewers’ sensibilities.
