for every right fashion has given the world, there will always be one seriously wrong… and usually the much-loved balenciaga, if only for its string of questionable additions to the fashion world, will be the one to deliver it – at least it is in the case of the fashion-house’s new skirt which happens to look just like a car carpet protector – a fashion phenomenon?

internet commenters were quick to offer feedback when the luxury fashion house posted an image of a model wearing the embossed leather item on their twitter and instagram. as well as a series of stunned comments from social-media-users-come-fashion-critics, personal finance advice website ‘money saving expert‘ offered followers advice on how to replicate the designer item by taking a trip to their local hardware store. in comparison to the $2916 runway look, MSE joked that an actual car carpet protector from halford’s could achieve the same look for £40.

the spanish design house is no stranger to controversy when it comes to looks they’ve sent down the runway. as part of their spring summer 2018 collection balenciaga revealed platform crocs earlier this month and even earlier this year balenciaga spakred a social media frenzy when it revelaed a $2,700 shopping bag which looked just like an IKEA tote.
