the first clip shows the film’s opening space battle which involves resistance starfighters against a first order fleet. the footage demonstrates the layering necessary to compose digital scenes featuring an abundance of spaceships and an equal amount of explosions.

the second offers a closer look at ILM‘s massive first order hangar set featured at the end of the film. the breakdown shows how footage entirely generated with visual effects can be combined with a green screen set coverage to create whole new worlds. visual elements including equipment, vehicles and troopers themselves are all layered behind the real-life actors.
