architecture and design firm brut deluxe has created a temporary light installation in madrid that measures 210 meters in length. the work, titled ‘stellar’, is a site-specific design that spans along calle alcala, between puerta de alcalá, a noted neo-classical monument, and plaza de cibeles. the installation — photographed here by imagen subliminal — comprises a blue-colored sequence of lines that zigzag above the street, creating what the design team calls an ‘artificial sky’.

brut deluxe has designed the installation to align with both the constellations above and the constant stream of traffic below. the work was realized with the help of a 6 kilometer-long blue rope light, which is suspended on 5mm stainless steel cables. in total, 7,680 LED light bulbs have been used. ‘the spectator is immersed in an artificial atmosphere resembling the constant spin of the stars in zero gravity,’ explains the design team.
