Benjamin Hubert from LAYER introduces his latest creation, the O6 Task Chair for Allsteel. With its large O-shaped frame supporting a generous mesh backrest and its gently contoured seat, the chair exudes intuitive functionality, inviting forms, and visual reduction, setting a new standard for approachable workplace furniture. The product is available in a wide range of color sets that users can customize, starting from pure black to light grey.

The O6 Task Chair was in development for two years, and its launch marks the first collaboration between LAYER (see more here) and Allsteel (see more here), one of the world’s leading office furniture brands. The product will be on display at NeoCon 2022, which takes place in Chicago from June 13-15, 2022.

The chair features six adjustability controls for ultimate comfort. These include vertical movement of armrests, multi-directional movement of arm pads, vertical and horizontal movement of the seat, tilting of the backrest, and adjustable lumbar support. The controls are streamlined and intuitive, enabling ergonomic comfort without visual complication.

inviting forms with ergonomic and intuitive functions

The inviting contours of the O6 Task Chair are visually evocative of its high levels of comfort. With exceptional cushioned support and responsive flexibility, it facilitates long-term comfort in various work environments. A weight-activated mechanism provides the proper ergonomic support for each user, while additional adjustability controls enable precise fine-tuning. Another defining feature is the optional non-contact lumbar support, which creates tension points within the mesh backrest to offer breathability.

This innovative functionality and high comfort is combined with efficient material use and clever design details to create a surprisingly competitively priced chair,’  comments Hubert.

a customizable product, from color and mesh to functions

Furthermore, O6 can be personalized by blending mesh and textile selections, creatively combining colors to add vibrancy to any interior setting. Users can also incorporate optional lumbar support and adjustable arms. LAYER offers 22 variations for the back and seat mesh, six 4-Way Stretch mesh back colors, four colors for the frame, and completely customizable textiles for the cushioned seat.

Task chairs typically have a highly technical expression that reflects their focus on functionality. Our collaboration with Allsteel was about finding a way to reduce that technical expression to enhance the sense of visual comfort and create a simple appearance. The result is an accessible companion for the evolving workspace, where neutrality and simplicity allow more traditional furniture typologies to be used in various settings. This essential design maintains an ownable identity through its simple yet sculptural form and tactile materiality,’ states Benjamin Hubert.
