BIC has asked the global public to contribute their handwriting to the universal typeface experiment, which combines hundreds of thousands of individual penmanship variations into a single font. the project celebrates the BIC cristal ballpoint and marks the first attempt to combine demographical data from all over the world into a unified, digital alphabet.

the website includes an exploration section, which allows users to compare their own entry to the universal average. they can explore statistical differences and similarities between their own writing to that of ones from different demographics, categorized according to age, gender and industry of employment. the created font immortalizes handwriting from across the world and can be shared by everyone, evolving continuously as new contributions are added. in august, the first version of the universal typeface will be downloadable and can be used like any other font.
