the ‘biennale bijou sauvage‘ is an initiative of the wesel art gallery, first organized in 1990 by jewelry designer claude wesel. intended as a collection that would stimulate the creators in a natural and unrestrained way, each piece explores a deep and complex narrative.

the designers were told, ‘avoid working the way you always do. go in search of what you know least about yourself. be an iconoclast and rid yourself of the academic straightjacket‘.

resulting is a collection that is both a ‘confrontation and a dialogue’ of contrasting objects, reflective of the jewelry maker and their individual expression, contradicting traditional conventions and rules.

the exhibition is on now until december 31, 2010 at design flanders gallery in brussels.
