to redesign a traditional inconvenient sofa, japanese studio hamanishi design proposes ‘blanco’, a very easy-to-assemble folding sofa. the piece consists of a metal frame and cushions fastened by a belt.

unlike traditional sofas, hamanishi’s blanco simply becomes compact: it is a two-seat folding sofa which is inspired by a deckchair and harmonizes with a modern living space. set on a simple tubular frame, the upholstered cushion is tightened with leather belts at both ends.

the tan-colored belts echo the lines of the sofa’s simple X-shaped frame which is shown in a mint green color. attached at two points and hanging above the base of the frame, is a velvet-like upholstery in a darker shade. the pieces come as a flat-pack, designed for compact storage and easy transportation.
