zero-waste body care brand uni aims to combat plastic pollution

plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our planet, and the multi-billion dollar beauty industry is not exactly helping the situation. however, there seems to be a sliver of hope now that existing personal care brands around the globe are committing to using less plastic, and new sustainable companies are making their debut on a day-to-day basis. one such company is body care brand uni, introducing a closed-loop system designed to eliminate single-use plastic. uni’s sustainable packaging and innovative dispensers are created by designer marc atlan who is responsible for a wide range of luxury brand packaging including commes des garçons, and prada.

the uni refill system seeks to tackle plastic waste and ocean pollution, by introducing an aluminum top dispenser designed to last and be reused over and over again on 100% recyclable aluminum bottles. the brand encourages customers to send their consumed aluminum bottles back to be refilled again with unisex personal care products including scented hand soap, hydrating body serums, shampoos, and hair conditioners. these will eventually be sent back to the customers via carbon-neutral shipping so that they can be used anew. when customers receive their new refills, they can pop the empty ones in the box, add their prepaid shipping label, send them back to be refilled, and so on. all products can be sent via subscription or purchased individually, here

the modern dispenser was designed by uni’s creative director, marc atlan, who is behind the packaging of many luxury brand such as commes des garçons, A.P.C., prada, tom ford for YSL, and helmut lang. the entire uni line is reef-friendly and utilize a special complex composed of sustainably-sourced marine actives, hydrating seawater broth and native australian plants. what’s more, uni donates 1% of online sales to international collective coral gardeners, thus contributing to various reef restoration projects. marc atlan, designer behind commes des garçons packaging, launches latest zero-waste line
