developed as an experiment to see how humor can be used to improve everyday objects, british designer henry franks has created ‘bog standard’, an oak toilet seat hybrid with a paper roll attached to the rim. in addition to being a clever sanitation solution, the accessory acts as a clean handle for closing and opening the seat. frank recently won the 2013 new designer of the year award for his re-imagined designs of everyday objects that are informed by his dyslexia.

  • Clearly mr. franks has no children or a wife! love the concept though. I think the humor would come from it’s actual use; the trying to negotiate a ‘safe landing’ with trousers down!

    SJS says:
  • cool but…haha, you have to pee properly, no drop!!!

    Duc C. Nguyen says:
  • Sorry, I like to be able to cross my legs during potty.

    Doug Green says:
  • I guess the only thing I like is the Oak. …Ewwwww! The roll of TP needs a cover. Maybe make an iPad holder instead.

    JimCan says:
  • if you clean the seat, the paper is going to get wet.

    test says:
  • ummm if your standing to pee, the seat should be up, so the role should be well out of the way. I would not have thought of doing this, but think that it is a great idea, would like to actually try it to see how easy it is to use. but really interesting idea, especially for those toilets that have not been places in a good spot to mount a holder on an adjacent wall.

    morgan says:
  • Brilliant…Show. Really a good idea. No contorcionism to get the paper, higienic and funny.

    mauro says:
  • Excellent…but I would add a lid to protect it gainst peeing drops and spilled water when flushing – AND to prevent the roll from accidental unwinding AND maybe make a distinct tear off possible.
Use the lid for commercials 😉
And for the neverlearning dudes who like to pee whille standing: it’s always a hygienic handle to lift up the seat 😉
