Bolon: 75 Years of pioneering Sustainable Design

Bolon stands as a testament to 75 years of innovation, weaving waste into premium flooring and rugs. The Swedish family-owned company’s commitment to transforming textile waste into stylish and environmentally conscious solutions began in 1949 with the bold idea of creating rag rugs from discarded materials. Today, Bolon continues to redefine the design industry by pushing the boundaries of sustainability and creativity.

This year, Bolon is breaking new ground with exciting material inventions, where all their products now contain 68% waste material, achieving an impressive 0% climate impact per square meter. In 2020, the Swedish family-owned company set an ambitious goal to halve its climate impact and ensure that all products contain at least 50% recycled material by 2028. To achieve this, they invested in the right people with the right knowledge, resulting in innovations like BIO-sourced PVC, recycled PVC, and recycled chalk from marble slab production. This milestone reflects the company’s dedication to sustainable practices and its unwavering pursuit of a greener design future.

‘Sustainability has always been embedded in the DNA of the brand. During this year, we’re excited to implement BIO-Sourced PVC, recycled PVC and recycled chalk from marble slab production. We’ll surpass our goal substantially and will be able to offer 68% recycled material in all our products and 0% climate impact!’ says CEO, co-owner Marie Eklund.

standing the test of time

The design company has made a brave decision ever since its inception; rather than offering a dedicated green collection, Bolon ensures that all its products embody sustainability. With this philosophy in mind, the company puts tradition and creativity into environmentally conscious solutions. Precisely, the products are manufactured in Sweden, using extremely durable and resilient woven vinyl that is designed to withstand high-intensity public and commercial environments.
