what’s the first word that comes to mind when you think of furniture?.. for bomi kim it’s ‘static’, and starting with this simple word, the designer has created a furniture series that combines a fixed element with something that appears to flow.

the project takes its name from a physically unfamiliar harmony, especially between pure geometry and informal masses. this unusual combination provokes people’s curiosity. at first glance, the curved white elements appear soft to the touch, but they are actually made of hard plastic. bomi kim explains, ‘I wanted to give people an unfamiliar twist, I tried to make it smooth with something hard.’

the designer continues, ‘I’m afraid of unexpected situations and challenges. in order to overcome my fear, I designed the ‘unfamiliar series’. I like to use geometric figures when I design but this time, I used curved lines instead of straight lines.’
