a bookstore-cum-hotel in japan welcomes guests who like a little bed time story before they rest their heads. the book and bed invites bookworms to sleep among the bookshelves, staying overnight in one of two branches located in kyoto and ikebukuro.

the high-concept hotel offers a wealth of interesting books and magazines

the trend kicked off in 2014 when japanese bookstore junkudo began offering overnight stays. varying slightly in the fact that the store is strictly experiential and tomes cannot be bought at book and bed, the store has still proved a hit since the successful opening of its first space in ikebukuro, july 2015.  the second branch in gion, kyoto, opened on December 2nd.

the book and bed hotel features capsule like sleeping areas

designed by soda-design and suppose design office, book and bed is the perfect nook for inquisitive travellers. whilst the capsule-like rooms are don’t look the most comfortable, with the right tale and a beer from the small neon-lit bar, guests can retire at an hourly rate in a set of rented yukata-style pyjamas.

the idea is to encourage visitors to explore the city before retiring with a book
