from milan to miami: ‘come stai?’ on display

 

Bottega Veneta celebrates Miami Art Week by showcasing its vibrant and diverse collection of sculptural resin ‘Come Stai?’ chairs designed by Gaetano Pesce. The works are the result of an unprecedented commission last September by Creative Director Matthieu Blazy, who had given the Italian architect and designer carte blanche to create a temporary, site-specific installation for the fashion house’s Summer 2023 show in Milan (see designboom’s previous coverage here). In total, the project saw the creation of four hundred chairs — all in a spectrum of playful colors. With a custom resin floor, the colorful pieces appear to melt into the runway, thus integrating artfully into the show.

 

In time for Design Miami/ 2022, Bottega Veneta continued the collaboration with an exhibition at its flagship, where a selection of Come Stai? chairs were on display. Meanwhile, the release of a collectible artist book was inaugurated which illustrates the creation of the chairs.

Gaetano pesce’s tribute to diversity for bottega veneta

 

The ‘Come Stai?’ collection for Bottega Veneta is a new design for Gaetano Pesce, his first original chair for several years. Each unique, the chairs are constructed with a cotton canvas based on traditional toile fabric, dipped in colored resin, and at times featuring hand drawings. ‘This chair is a tribute to diversity,’ notes the artist, ‘It is about the human being; we are all different. People who say we are the same — fuck them! We are all different and this is our defining quality — otherwise, we are just a copy. We are all originals and this is one of the themes of my design.‘
