ronan and erwan bourouollec are recognized for their minimalistic designs that deliver maximum function. their kvadrat ‘roller blind’ is no exception. a result of a deep research into textiles and their relationship with light, the window coverings have been envisioned as a means of controlling luminosity, reflecting and absorbing the sun’s rays — providing shading, glare and thermal comfort, as well as light changing conditions.

each system is comprised of an anodized aluminium frame and textiles with different diffusion qualities, especially developed to respond to specific light situations. the particular colors chosen for the fabric were selected to complement interior architectural spaces, expressing discreet monochrome nuances or bold contrasts.

the components and mechanisms are seamlessly integrated in a way that they work with a precision comparable to a swiss watch. the design is easy to use and install either vertically or horizontally such as from the ceiling, a wall, beam or window frame. the kvadrat ‘roller blind’ is operated using a chain, switch or remote control.
