BREIL new times by yael kristal + uriel zohar

‘new times’ by yael kristal and uriel zohar

‘new times’ by yael kristal and uriel zohar from israel has been shortlisted in designboom’s international design time BREIL competition. their design re-examines the archetypal watch, offering a new method for telling time whereby the command hands indicating hours, minutes and seconds are replaced by three concentric dials. these disks rotate clockwise with time determined by the indicator.

common hour, minute and second hands are replaced by three concentric disks

the ‘design time BREIL international design competition’ asked participants to develop the next icon in watch culture. 3037 designers from 96 different countries submitted their concepts, which jurors narrowed down a shortlist of 100 entries from which three winners were selected. read the original call for entries, or browse the list of the three winning designers (visuals and details not yet released).

and keep posted to designboom: next week we’ll open the list of shortlisted entries for viewing, as well as publishing more featured submissions. and mark your calendars for salone del mobile 2012, april 17th to 22nd, where designboom and BREIL will showcase the designs and prototypes of the three winning designs!

    ivanm says:
  • I quite like the cleanness of it, but I mean its just confusing and annoying to work out what time it actually is??

    L.C.E says:
  • Like it!

    c.g.r says:
  • Yes, nice design indeed. But hard to read.
E.g. how do I read off the seconds at the innermost ring? Pointing downwards is 0/60? That would be rather confusing.

    oliver says:
  • _what time is it?
    _ mmm.. wait a minute! it’s a breil..
    _ah ok! dont touch it!

    KK says:
  • me gustaba mas el de YACHI DESING

    cesar yachi says:
  • Nice design. The “60” would be better as a “0”.
