‘brick lamp’, designed by new york’s HCWDstudio, is a minimal light that works with no switch, shade, or wire. instead, it interacts with your hand gestures to create light in an intuitive way. the concept of ‘brick lamp’ it to encourage people to become aware of the moment of concealing and revealing light.

‘brick lamp’ in wood

instead of a switch, light is activated when the brick is raised, and deactivated when laid flat on any surface. it features a bevel that works in two ways; for easy grabbing, and to direct the light to a specific location. the weight of the object is carefully engineered so that it sits stably without a tendency to tip over. a built-in battery with LEDs allows the lamp to glow continually for up to five hours on a single charge, after which it can be replenished via USB port.

‘brick lamp’ is produced in wood, cast concrete, and aluminum. a special mix of concrete and fine grained sand are combined and cast in a high-quality rubber mold for a smooth, finished surface. the wood option is designed to compliment classically furnished interiors, or for anyone who enjoys the simplicity of wood pieces. it is made from a single piece of lumber, and coated with a natural, eco-friendly clean stain for an elegant finish. ‘brick lamp’ in aluminum is milled directly out of solid aluminum with CNC technology. to give it a sleek metallic touch the bevels were sand-blasted with matte finish, and the top was finished with a brushed texture. the finished product is anodized to permanently seal and protect the metal from rust and stain.
