bunga design atelier unveils ‘temple of togetherness’

The rambu(T)-rambu(T) / Temple of Togetherness by Bunga Design Atelier is an architectural sculpture that fosters friendship and understanding among its visitors. Sited in an expansive urban park in Titiwangsa, Malaysia, the habitable is shaped by an unconventional material — penyapu lidi, a common cleaning tool found in Malaysian households. Transforming these broomsticks into building components, the designers employed paper tubes as baton-like elements, mapping out puncture marks for the metal rods. When assembled, a robust diagrid emerges, forming a seamless circle. Stepping inside, the serenity of the enclosed space invites people to reflect, away from the bustle of the city.

household broomsticks form this contemplative structure

An 880mm diameter concrete-filled culvert sits in the ground as a foundation for the 4-meter-tall — albeit modest — rambu(T)-rambu(T) / Temple of Togetherness. A 4-meter long ramp extends from the structure, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the surrounding landscape and venture inside. As they approach the ‘altar’, a profound silence and emptiness envelops them, encouraging contemplation.

Conceived with inclusivity in mind, Bunga Design Atelier has crafted the installation in collaboration with a diverse group of creators, ensuring representation from a broad range of demographics. In order to maintain clear communication and streamline efforts, an efficient system was established which allowed everyone involved to work harmoniously towards a shared goal. ‘Made together and to be appreciated together, the sculpture sits in its chosen context for years to come, in the hopes that visitors will leave with a new understanding of how precious and sacred our unity is,’ notes the team at Bunga Design Atelier.
