bumper bed by marc newson for domeau&pérès

marc newson‘s design for domeau&pérès is imagined as a natural extension of the common mattress’ form.

‘buying a bed is a cheesy experience. most of the people I know at some time in their lives have slept on a mattress on the floor – I did. so, I thought it would be cool to design a product that would give people like me the opportunity to transform their trusty mattress into a nice looking bed.’

‘the surround’s semi-bold so you can sit on it, consisting of upholstered polyurethane foam blocks held around the edges of the mattress with elastic webbing. it was a very playful, conceptual exercise, akin to turning one’s bed into a boxing ring or a life raft.’ – marc newson

  • Yes, very conceptual Marc…!?
    Also, totally hideous!
