contrasting ‘chair compositions’ constructed by bakery design
tel aviv-based industrial designers gilli kuchik and ran amitai of bakery design make their products through hands-on experimentation. the concept of ‘chair compositions’ is to combine two elements, colors and styles that together form functional seating that creates a dynamic three-dimensional graphic. this is achieved by strategically assembling the individual elements of the chair in an ergonomic manner. crafted by the designers themselves, the tubular steel and plywood seats are defined by twos, in their materials, colors, and styles. their complimentary arrangements create aesthetically contrasting negatives of one another. both versions are constructed in a way that outlines their basic necessities – structure and support – with simple elegance.

chair composition 1 emphasizes the backrest as an individual element

the cantilevered backrest of the first composition creates a natural balance in the chair

two colors, two elements mixed and matched form complimentary chairs

chair composition 2 rests one structural element atop the other

layered material creates uniform support and backrest

the simple color scheme compliments other furnishings easily
